Social media social good: JobAngels
April 7, 2009
I came across JobAngels on twitter. The idea is that people can post items that say what kind of work they are looking for and followers (that’s twitter-speak for people who track you) can commit to helping one person find a job. It’s an interesting idea, but I wonder if they’ve had much success. As someone who works hard at helping her students and friends find work, my feeling is that it’s the genuinely personal connections that make a difference. I can enthusiastically refer someone I know well to someone else I know well. In this job market, employers are being deluged with resumes that fit their exact specifications so I’m not sure how much help it is to point yet another person to a potential opening. Of course it depends on the specific industry, location, and job. And if JobAngels is helping people actually find work, I’m all for it. If you or anyone you know has had any success finding work through JobAngels, please feel free to share your story here.
